About ACE
ACE – Abbotsford’s Centre of Excellence - officially opened on the 9th of February 2017 in its very own training centre situated on the former site of the Head Office based in Glenrothes.
Abbotsford took the decision to create a multi-use training facility to develop and support our staff in the ever-changing care profession where we offer a variety of training and development opportunities, both internally and externally. ACE was then relocated in 2021 where it is now situated at Abbotsford’s Head Office based in Kirkcaldy.
The centre is managed by Hazel, who as the Lead Internal Verifier oversees the running of the SVQ qualification. The centre became an SQA accredited centre to deliver SVQ in April 2018. The first qualifications being Social Services and Healthcare at SCQF6 and 7(SVQ Levels 2&3). In August 2019 we also get approval to deliver SVQ4, (SCQF9) and in February 2021 approval was gained to deliver the SVQ 4 Care Services Leadership and Management at SCQF Level 10.
The training and development co-ordinator, Mary Ann oversees all training, liaises with managers and senior management to ensure the training needs of the staff are met, coaches staff and assists with the delivery of courses, as well as liaising with our on-line providers and external facilitators to support staff where needed.
We also deliver comprehensive training courses such as:
- Staff Induction
- Moving & Handling
- Infection Control
- Health & Safety
- First Aid
- Fire Awareness & Fire Marshal
- Specific medical and clinical courses
Training is provided at the centre by staff employed by Abbotsford Care and also with outside facilitators who run bespoke courses relevant to staff needs.
Our Founder and Principle Company Director, Karen McKechnie, explains that “our staff will benefit from this excellent training facility which will prove invaluable in the learning and development of current staff as well as preparing our new members for roles within the care sector. The development of ACE is a tremendous asset as it will enhance our staffs already excellent skills and help ensure our service provision is of the highest standard and quality now and in the future".
