Dementia Awareness Week
Thursday, 1 June 2017
At Cowdenbeath we decided to use the garden to create friendships as part of dementia awareness week. Residents and families were invited to take part. We had a buffet lunch and had plants and flowers to pot to make our garden area look nice. We are also growing our own vegetables. As the weather was not so nice the residents did have to pot the plants inside but we still had fun and enjoyed doing this together. Working on the project and maintaining the garden and plants keeps resident’s active and helps to promote new friendships.
As we were using the garden to grow friendships as part of dementia awareness week we decided to also include the local community. We wrote out to local businesses in the area and asked if they would be willing to donate any items to our garden for the residents to enjoy. Morrison’s store in Cowdenbeath kindly donated vouchers for us to purchase items for the garden. As you can see from the pictures the residents had fun and the garden is thriving.
